Boat Covers?

Hi all, I'm pulling the trigger on a '95 Wellcraft Eclipse 196S bowrider. There are snaps for the bow & cockpit cover, but the owner doesn't have them. I've done a few small searches for them, but can't really come up with anything model specific. I'd like something that fits good, not just a generic one-size-fits-all replacement. Any ideas on where to look?

Many thanks!

Yea - google custom boat covers - and find one that does it in your area....That is your only option.

Oh - and get ready to open up your wallet.

I own an upholstery shop. A bow and cockpit cover made specifically for your boat aren't going to be that expensive (depending what your idea of expensive is...). If the snaps are already in place and I simply have to create a bow cover for a 19' bowrider, I would estimate in the $200-$250 range for a Sunbrella (or equilivent) cover. The cockpit cover would be more depending on design and size. Shop around to canvas and upholstery shops.

A snap on cover is a great investment in your boat--money well spent. Universal covers are just not that weather tight.

My pontoon's kept in a boathouse without a cover, and my upholstery needs replacement (after 26 years.) With a proper cover, I'd still have good upholstery. I also wouldn't have to work so hard to get rid of all those damn willow flies that hatch every 2 weeks in the Summer.

Yeah, what he said!
I suspect he will pay $500 to have a custom bow cover made, and perhaps $750 for the cockpit portion if done by an accomplished shop with many orders to fill in the middle of a very short season. I had an estimate done at a well respected marine upholstery shop for a simple cockpit cover for a 23' Sundancer, and they quoted me nearly $1500! I did however, ask for the very best material available, but the real deal breaker was the two month waiting list...

Ouch. But it will be money well spent, the interior on this boat looks like brand new even after 15 years. I even thought the guy had it re-done, but he denied it and told me he just made sure it was inside every time it wasn't in use. Wow.

Some popular custom boat covers are mass produced by marine stores like BoatUS. They may or may not have your model. I think it worth checking into.

Over in your neck of the woods in Wisconsin it shouldn't be too hard at all to find a guy that does custom boat covers. Worst case head east over to the Two Rivers area, lots of boat covers in those marinas, , , somebody's got to make them.
I had a custom total boat cover made for my 1750, snap fit, awsome material, it wasn't sunbrella but probably a lot like it. Only cost me $550.00

I have a 19ft bowrider and it cost about 650 for the 2 part snap around covers last year.

You will LOVE the snaps compared to a stock cover. Fits perfect and if used with poles in the middle will do a great job of keeping water out. One sugestion on getting a snap cover. Get one piece. Dont get a bow and cockpit two piece. Water will get under the windshield.

Re: Boat Covers?

Pay attention to jmarty's post about not getting a two piece cover. I made that mistake last year, cost me $500, he had to install the snaps too. Nice cover and good material but the rain gets in between the bottom of the windshield and the beginning of the bow cover piece. A real pain. If I had it to do over again I would get either a one piece snap in cover for the whole 19' boat or separate front cover with an extension to the top of windshield. I think dual snaps could be put there to snap in both the cockpit cover and the front cover.
