Boat drives straight - but leans left

I've got a 1986 Bayliner Capri 1850 model. With the boat balanced correctly, 2 people on left and 2 on right, it leans to the left. It actually banks left about 30 degrees at the fastest speed. Going slow it wont bank, but as I pick up speed it banks more to the left. Are there rudder trims I can adjust or would the steering be out of alignment? This is not a duoprop boat.

Have you trimming the drive up some, it sounds like you have too much bow in the water as you go faster and the hull is falling off to the left. It could go off to the right as well but you may have a bit more weight on the left.

Another possibility is that you have waterlogged foam under the deck. Foam that is either open cell or closed cell that has broken down (and it does) holds a LOT of water which in turn can add a lot of weight. Just another thought and hope you're able to level 'er out.

Regards,

--rml

Scott A;

You said that you do not have a duopro. What do you have for power? What prop are you using? Are you trimming out when you get on plane? Do you have a hydrofoil on the cavitation plate?

Initially it sound as though you have a torque list, if the list gets worse as the speed increases.

Scott A. I have the same problem with my 98 fisher. So I am very interested in this post. I will see what everyone says, but I thought it was amazing that someone with the same first name, and I assume same last initial (A) is having the same issue and posted it. I wish I had it figured out so I could help, but no luck yet. Have you tried getting the boat level. Mine slowly turns in a big cirlce, and I already have the trim anode cranked as far as it will go so I have to steer slightly left and that makes my boat bank. Hope we both get it fixed.

If you are sure you don't have a weight problem on the left side and trimming the motor up dosn't solve the problem just put a set of trim tabs on and bend the left one down a little further than the right, that should solve your problem, i had a light boat with a big motor on it over powered was a understatement and it did that it was torquing from the motor, but the tabs took care of it and they were only 5" wide.
