Re: boat drop test

Way cool. And honestly it's very impressive.

Though I've got one word for all the "market-ese" they were tossing around about this unsinkable boat ... "Titanic."

Made a believer out of me, although I will never be able to afford one in my lifetime. Anyone take a guess at price of hull alone? $50-$65K ?

A new 2012, 29' with twin Yamaha 300's is going for $177,000. A mere pittance...

I wonder if I could buy just that back half for cheap? Maybe rig it for lobster pots or quahog harvesting? Could make a fortune!

It was interesting to see the building process.

Ho-Hum---Not impressed! Boston Whaler did it first, a good number of years ago! And Wellcraft used to drop their hulls from a helicopter about 100 feet high.

Not only did whaler do it, whaler shot up a boat with a machine gun and it was still floating!!

It looks like sea hunter also has the boat filled with foam everything?

I was interested in the foam, too. It's my understanding that foam is not required over 22(?) feet because the boat would sink anyway, the builders don't use it, but these guys work it into the hull's integrity. Added quality?
I also noticed the bulkhead under the floor right where they cut, and wonder if it was added for the demonstration, otherwise the open bilge would have just scooped up the water and submarined it.

BTW, Nice PPE, dust mask

It looks like that bulkhead was added for the demo.. but it's possible that its always there... my boat had a midship bulkhead...

I can't quite tell if it's foam filled or just if it's there like any smaller boat would have...

I think they have a couple bulkheads in them.... I ALSO don't think the foam they add has ANYTHING at all to do with flotation.....My theory is that it is lightweight and acts as a form for a structural "tube" of fiberglass AND it deadens vibration/sound....

Re: boat drop test

My Regal has some kind of bulk head under the helm, with the seat pedestal removed I can reach forward to a bulk head and another on both sides and towards the stern there's another one, I can't tell for sure what is beyond what I can't feel, I'd hate to cut her open to look. My Carolina skiff has solid foam logs glassed into the floor. She floats with the plugs out but Carolina Skiff told me it can become water logged under the deck if accessories aren't screwed down with marine silicone sealant. But there is a way to drain it if that happens, with the Regal I don't know.

If I'm not mistaken it was 100 rounds of .30 cal. Bet the Capt'n was doing a lil 'dancing' ...?

I think you're right.. impressive stuff lol.

Well, I agree that the foam is used like that, but I also think that it provides superior flotation. Look at Carolina skiff and whaler... foam filled hulls and unsinkable... "STRENGHT

UNSINKABLE: Cut into three pieces, a Carolina Skiff hull can still float. The vast volume of foam flotation and positive buoyancy allows Carolina Skiff hulls to keep everyone dry (as evidenced by the hoto above)."

^^ that's from a website about their construction...

Re: boat drop test

we're talking about two different boats here.... the carolina skiff and whaler are FILLED.... the sea hunter has thin (maybe 1/2") strips glassed in. Pretty much no flotation value..... watch the beginning of the video again and you'll see

Re: boat drop test

Yeah, it's tough, it looked like all but that mystery bulkhead was foam
