with all the ethanol talk/problems will there ever be a seperate bottom drain pipe or line (even if it enters from the tank top) to allow you to pump out "water" coming from plase seperation?
In my opinion (worth exactly what you're paying for it) is probably not. Because once the water is gone, then it's fuel. Someone will, no doubt, begin siphoning off water and walk away. Then the contraption would begin spewing fuel everywhere.
You could make the design foolproof, but someone would just create a better fool.
Pre-flite tests on small aircraft includes opening the drain **** on the wing fuel tanks to check for water dripping out.
And avgas doesn't contain ethanol anyway.
A water sensor might make more sense in a boat tank.
There might be some regulations which prohibit fittings on the bottom of gasoline tanks. (To reduce the liklihood of a leak and fuel in the bilge.) I don't know for sure - just throwing it our there.
The fitting to drain a tank is already present on EVERY gas tank. It is the line attached to the engine and the engine sucks the tank dry (at least mine do) at an alarming rate. Disconnect it and pump it dry.

Gas tanks of the future? We don't need no stinkin' gas tanks! The way things are going, we will have battery power like GM's new Volt. We can either run it in the no wake zone for fifteen minutes before the needed recharge, or go wot for thirty seconds and never get on plane, even with smart tabs!
