Boat gauges

All my gauges work with the ignition on except for the fuel gauge , which the last one on the purple wire off the ignition. If I wire the fuel gauge directly to the 12 volt battery with nothing else the on the battery , the gauge will work and only then does it work. I know its a grounding issue and can not find where the problem really is. I did notice that the toggle switches that follow the fuel gauge on the purple wire , went dark and the fuel gauge would work. If the switches work -the gauge didn't. I haven't been able to duplicate that on demand or again. So if I had a separate 12 volt battery wired to the fuel gauge it would probably work.

fix the wiring

gauges are typically daisy chained with their wiring, coming in either on the tach or the battery, then a loop jumps to the next gauge, and so on.

if all your gauges except one work, it is one of the 2 power wires (+ batt or Ground) or it is the signal wire
