Boat Hours, What's yours and what's Average

I would like to know what kind of hours people are putting on their boats. I'll compile this into a spreadsheet if anyone is interested.<br /><br />List your Year, Model, current hours, seasonal hours<br /><br />Example<br />1990 - OMC - 4.3Ltr - Cobra - 850 hours total<br />1990 - OMC - 4.3Ltr - Cobra - 50 hours a season<br />or anything that makes it clear.

I've got a few boats - on my pontoon 75 merc I average 80 hours/year, my 18 bowrider 3.0 merc averages 50 hours, and my 15 foot whaler w/ a 70 Evinrude averages 15 hours.. so I'm at about 150 hours a year.. <br /><br />Lee

1994 Volvo 302 350 hours<br /><br />I'd say 70% of the hours I've put on the boat since I bought it last year have been due to repairs with the key on.

Let's see if we can dope out an average<br /><br />Say a typical season is 7 months<br /><br />That roughly 7 x 4 = 28 weeks<br /><br />Say the average boater runs their motor 5 hours a week (some weeks more, some less but just guess an average of 5 hours of running)<br /><br />Then my guess is the average boat puts on 28 X 5 = 140 hrs/ per year.<br /><br />Thoughts?

Ralph thats probably a very realistic estimate, unfortunatly, I most likely use mine even less than that......100 hrs a year maybe...

Mercury Did a study a few years ago and came up with 55 hours per year on average, for trailerable boats.

Aqua Power (Morse Controls) did a study also and came up with about the same as Merc. Just over 50 hours per year (average) on recreational boats in the 48 states.<br /><br />Most people think that is low until they realize that on a typical 8 hour fishing trip the motor is only run perhaps 2 to 3 hours.

1976 Cobalt, 165 Merc, 860 hours in 12 years, ave. 63 per year (had 100 on it when I bought it).<br /><br />1999 Baja listed below, 175 hours in 2 years, ave about 75 per year (had 25 on it when I bought it).<br /><br />The above hours are active, 95 percent of that time is pulling skis and tubes at above 3000 rpm.

Twin 1986 Merc 454's:<br />Original owner - 540hrs, 15 years = 36hrs/yr<br />Since Purchase - 200hrs, 3 years = 66hrs/yr

After kids ages 6 & 3 <br />This yr: (4hrs/wk)*(10 wks) = 40hrs/yr<br /> (6 yrs)*(40hrs/yr) = 240hrs<br /><br />B4Kids: (8hrs/wk)*(16 wks) = 128hrs/yr<br /> (6yrs)*(128hrs/yr) = 768hrs<br /><br /> Approx Total = 1008hrs<br /><br />But things are looking up. The oldest now swims well and is talking about tubing. I see rising hours ahead

1984 Sea Sprite Cuddy OMC 3.8 V6 229 cid / Stringer 800 - 109hrs but none in the last 3 years. <br /><br />I've only just got it but will aim to do a few hours this year to test the motor and drive once I've rebuilt them.

Maybe 30 hours on the blue water fishing this summer(I wish it was more). No hour meter.<br />Our new glastron we took delivery with 2.5hrs including our test ride in march. now has 117.3 on meter. I was out all the time sking and tubing with wife and kids. I just sold my little 12 foot boat this last week because I only put maybe 5hours on it this year.

Just checked my meter........... 624.3hrs<br /><br />1974 Starcraft Islander 221....<br />Total Refit in the spring of 1999, with a 1997 4.3LX Alpha1....<br />It's still as tight as the day I built it....<br /><br />1999 Merc. 4.3LX Alpha1 624.3hrs
