hello everyone
after getting a lot of help from you guys/gals on my boat rebuild (thanks to all) i am really thinking about building a cradle for my tri-hull boat. i am trying to find more info on how to build one but every time i type in boat-hull-cradle on the search tab i have to go thru hundreds of pages to find what i really want. i would like to read and see pics or video on how you did yours so i can plan how to build mine. if you have built one can you please direct me to your thread and page? i would like to start getting ready for building one instead of spending hours searching thru all the pages.
thanks again

3 piece cradle system.jpgboat cradle.jpgthe first one is a 3 piece with rollers on each, the second one is one long cradle with rollers built simular to a trailer
click on pics for larger view
The cradle in the other post is better for support for doing a total refurb, these can work for that but do not offer as much support to the hull once the cap is off

On a small boat like yours a set of 6x2 casters and doubbled up 2x6 wood studs can be tied together on end to make rails 33"to 48" appart linkled to front and aft cross members made from doubbled up 2x6 or 2x8 with casters. you can use l bracket to tie them together. Or try styrofoam blocks if you dont need to move it arround. we support 20000lb houseboats on foam blocks at our marina.

i used come a longs (lift cables) and my garage beams to lift the boat a couple feet and built this under it using 10 2x4 wall studs... The boat is 15. The idea was to make it as simple as possible.

Do you have a plan layout, dimension. etc?

Plan layout and dimensions are going to be different for each boat since width, length, keel depth, chine and strake locations are all different unless its an identical year make and model we can give you dimensions but you will still have to measure and fit to your boat before you put your boat on the stand.

When I made my cradle I made the bunks swivel so they would conform to the shape of the hull no matter what.

Sweet Idea WOG. But depending on the repair it might allow some flex in the hull especially if the cap was removed along with the stringers and floor. Don't you think?

Re: Boat hull cradle - help!!!!!

On mine yes. If you make it a Full bunk style with pivots and put a midpoint pivot...no. It should actually be more supportive than a hard point design since it would conform more readily to the shape of the hull. I did not have to remove the stringers and deck so therefore was not an issue for me but...If i did one that required a full gut, I would build it the same but with the center support and full bunks and I would add a fixed "V" keel support down the middle like similar to post #9. But hey, that's just my opinion, and everybody knows, I'm just an

Exactly.. And sorry I have no clue..I lifted the hull 2 feet off the ground and thats what ended up underneath it, it fits my "simple cheap" theme and serves its purpose :)

Thanks Den I knew I read somewhere how you had fitted yours. I have a tri-hull very similar, a 73 starcraft capri. My trailer doesn't have the side rails like yours. But I believe I need to get a cradle similiar to yours built before I take the cap off. Not sure I can use the the garage supports the way you did. Any ideas would be great.
