Great looking tinny! Just in case you haven't hit Google up

Google image gave me this one claiming a 65'.

Also from right here at iboats via a regular Google search there was this one from the archives. Looked like some good pics in it also. There were more threads that hit springbok but that was the only one I saw

First time I've seen this site which I found interesting for brochures. I'm not sure I'd shell out $25 for a PDF scan of a brochure but they do list that they have Springbok from 90' back to 59'. (I had to just scroll down as the quick links in the alphabet listing at the top didn't work for me)

Thank you TDF!
I assume that since it is a '60's boat, VIN and Capacity plate were not required?

Our first outboard some 40+ years ago was much like yours. That 33 hp is a great engine.

From reading that yours was Canadian made I don't know what would of been required. I know my 68 Starcraft doesn't have a HIN but does have a capacity plate.

Perhaps some of the members from up north will stop in and shed some light.

Thanks for the replies!
From photographs I've seen of Springboks of a similar age, I'd guess that the capacity plate should be on the splashwell, which was removed a long time ago by the PO!
From what I can glean from the interweb, it is the manufacturers responsibility to have this on their boats and in a secure place.
I guess the splashwell was secure enough in the 60's! lol

Re: Boat ID and information....

Well the good news is....
I changed the impeller and sparkplugs and cleaned the carb and this motor just PURRS! :D
I think that engine is worth the price I paid for the whole thing!....
I removed that Stainles steel plate and am going to replace the wooden transom with a full one.
Hopefully get it wet soon!

Re: Boat ID and information....

Should I start a post in the restoration section?
I won't be doing much though, just the transom, floor in the middle, replacing the wood on the bench seat and installing a couple of swivel seats.
I'll paint it next year when I have more dry time!

Re: Boat ID and information....

Ok, so I'm in catch 22!
I don't want to put another post about this boat, but I wanted to post some updates, but this is the wrong forum.
Any chance an adminitrator could combine these posts and put into the restoration forum?
I just thought I'd let you see what I've done to the boat so far.
I replaced the sparkplugs, impeller and oil on the engine and it now purrs like a kitten! I used spiral wrap to tidy up the cables, secured the ignition controls into the dash and secured the throttle controls as well.
I replaced all of the seat brackets. Cut 3/4" ply, treated it with resin and painted and replaced both seats. (I put on 2 swivel seats as well).
I'm thinking of putting hinges on the back seat and using it for storage, but that can wait until next spring.
I put a floor down in the middle part, but it takes up too much space, so I'm removing that.
Took the stainless steel plate off the back and cut it down and placed the parts directly on the new transom (full 1 1/2" resined and painted ply), which is bolted onto the aluminum transom.
(It's not pretty, since I used 3M 5200 to seal all of the securing bolts, but I'm planning on painting the whole boat next spring, so no big deal.)
I put weather strip on the bottom of the windshield, pot rivetted it onto the bow, then put new snap fittings on the top, made new brackets for the bimini and now it fits perfectly.
I also drilled holes where the cracks ended so they won't get any bigger, then sealed the holes with silicone.
It's pretty watertight, but I'm going to test it on the lake on Saturday. :)
Here a few pics just to see the progress so far.

Re: Boat ID and information....

kbd, nice work on that little Tinny. Looks like it may be water ready, great news the motor is purring.

I saw you mentioned you used silicone, you will need to watch that. It won't last. Use the 5200 or 4200 and it will stay a long time.

I'm glad to see you mentioned paint, It would really clean that ride up. But it doesn't have to look pretty to be on the water.;)

Have Fun and good luck.

Re: Boat ID and information....

Thanks 64osby,
I only used the silicone to plug the holes I drilled in the windshield to prevent the small cracks from getting any bigger. I'd never use it for anything else on a boat, 3M 5200 on everything else! Geez that stuff is sticky and messy! lol
Next spring, I'll strip it down and repaint inside and out, probably the same colours since the seats have blue in them.....

Thanks again!
KBD
