not sure if this is the right forum, but it seems like the best candidate.

Looking for opinions or horror stories about BOAT US insurance. I am thinking about starting a policy with them. They have some good rates it seems or at least better than what I currently have. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with them and what was your experience like.

thanks

Re: Boat insurance

Thornius,

I have been with State Farm for years. Found they have the best rates on just about everything, especially if you have multiple policies with them. An example is my current boat, 27' Fountain Fever, 470 Horsepower, insured for $52,000 is around $357/year, with $1,000 deductible...In the summer I will change to a $500 deductible, and I believe it raises the premium to $420 +/-....Most companies I called when I priced insurance on this boat would not even cover it. The ones that would wanted other insurables, such as home, auto etc. And the 2 places that would insure just the boat, wanted close to $1,000/year. State Farm is excellent as far as service, claim response....Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Sorry, couldn't help that one, lol.

Re: Boat insurance

What about charter insurance? anyone with any thoughts? Pondering starting up a dive charter and looking into ins. but cannot find much of anything! I tried in the charter forum but got nothing. Just curious as to who to go through, perhaps the hoops to jump thru, and maby a guesstimate cost for 6 people on my steel 28 footer. Golfer I see your from TC, small world, Cheboygan here.
Thanks
Craig

I used Progressive for Cajun that I just sold, it was 20hp overpowered, and they knew it. I had 50,000 + 100,000 + 50,000, and also had theft and lost item and it was 167 per year. Everyone else I checked with wanted double that and some would not cover it because it was overpowered.

Yes, it is a small world Craig. Look for me on Torch Lake at the sandbar. Fountain Fever, 27', pink/blue/black/white. I will be the guy with too loud of music, too much to drink, having way too much fun, and not moving a bit, just sitting there anchored due to the above :D
