I have a 1986 Bayliner with a chevy 305 and Volvo Penta 275 Outdrive. I have been having this issue for a while now and I am about to take the boat to the middle of the lake and pull the plug! It will fire up and run great for about an hour or so then all of a sudden just die. Go to restart it and it doesnt want to fire back up just starts back firing out of the carb. I am lost as to what it might be. Also when it does this if I go and pump the fuel primer bulb it is empty. Its almost like it is just letting all the fuel drain. But if I pump the bulb back up still nothing. does anyone have any ideas as I am lost. Also I have all new fuel filters and new fuel. The carb was just cleaned and put all new gaskets on. Any help would be appericated. I also checked the gas tank vent line and it isnt clogged either.

Thanks
Matt

Possibly check the coil? Sounds like the issue to me. Bad coils will usually work when cold but when they heat up they begin to malfunction. If it sets for a while will it start back up?

Yes it will. After it sets about 20-30 minutes it will. I also put on a digtial ignation box that I had left over from my race car. But I wired it like it said to for a dis that has points. I also put new points and condinser in it. You think it might be the box?

Get rid of the primer bulb and the ignition box. Bet its not coastguard approved. Did you set the points to spec and also set the dwell? After this is all completed try it again. If it still does it post back and we can help when it is basically back to original specs. Also when was its last tune up.

Just did a tune up a few weeks ago. Yes the points are set to spec as is the dwell. Had a friend of mine come over with a dewell meter and set them up. I will take all of it off and report back in a few days. 1 More thing at WOT or near its starting to over heat. now if I am at a cruising speed or idle the temp will come back down. Does this sound like the cir pump? It has a new impeller and this just started.

It is very possible. It would be worth a try.
