Been a while since I've been here, but you guys have always helped me out.

I haven't touched my boat for 3 years, pulling it out of storage and trying to get it ready again. 3 years ago, I did a bunch of work to it, water pumps, carb rebuild, gimbal bearing, out drive seals, etc. Unfortunately, it has sat ever since. I had just a few gallons of fuel in it and had added fuel Sta-bil.

I went to start it up and behold, after charging the battery, it started, all be it kinda rough.

So, the engine sounds good and strong when revving it up, idles rough but I think my linkage still needs to be adjusted after my carb rebuild. It won't idle on it's own. It is also blowing a lot of smoke out the exhaust.

What do I do, I am thinking to add fresh fuel, mixed in with the last few gallons of crappy fuel, and running it just to blow it out. Maybe add some kind of additive?

I think if I adjust the throttle linkage at the carb, I can probably get it to idle, but kind of concerned with the smoke.

Does Sta-bil smoke after 3 years of sitting? Hope that's all it is.

Thanks again,
Bob

Mixing good fuel with bad fuel = bad fuel. So I would drain the gas tank and start with fresh fuel, Then if it does not run right you know it is not the fuel, otherwise you would always question the fuel. Not worth it for a few gallons.

Also if you fogged the engine it will smoke a while to burn all that heavier oil off. I don't think stabil smokes.

Easiest fix yet, The Choke was stuck............... It's running great.

Now, if I remember, last time I had it out after all the work I did to it, it wanted to stall when shifting into gear. So, is there a page or video that show's how to get the adjustment correct on the linkage to the carb.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Add a bottle of K-100 to the tank to help burn off any condensation in your fuel system.

Achris has an awesome video for adjusting your linkage. I used his video and along with a written version to adjust mine. I found out that as little as a 1/16th of an inch makes a difference so be patient and allot enough time to do it correctly.
