How much does friend weigh? Boats are usually ballanced with no people in them the weight of a person, especially a large person can screw up that ballance. if it is even with a passenger thats probably it.
If your friend wants to go out alone, not smart boating BTW, move something of approx equal weight to the other side. Batteries are a good place to start...
