Boat lift brake winch questions?

Not sure if this is the right section but here it goes.
I am currently looking at replacing my boat lift winch brake, which sticks/scrubs excessively when lowering the boat into the water.

My current brake winch is a 1200 with a 4:1 gear ratio which I can replace for around $100 dollars.
The 1500 I am currently thinking about is a 6:1 gear ratio and costs around $160.

I understand with the 1500 and the 6:1 gear ratio that it will hoist the boat up slightly quicker but what I need to know is, will it be harder or easier to do so?

I phoned Naylor, who made my boat lift and was told they have now switched their A2400's boat lifts (like mine) from 1200's to 1500's.

The 1500 is the route I am thinking but want to make sure I am making the right decision before doing so.

IMHO the 6:1 will lift up your boat slower. You have to make 6 turns with the handle instead of 4 with your current one to make one turn of the drum.

However, you will need less force to turn the handle and may be able to turn it faster.....

I was thinking 6 rotations of the drum per 1 revolution of the wheel, meaning it would come up faster, but maybe I have that backwards?

The 4:1 is somewhat hard so if you are right, it should be slightly easier like you say.

I will phone tomorrow and see what Naylor says?

Thanks.

You were right kjsAZ, it will raise my boat up slower, but it will be much easier.

I ordered the 1500, suppose to be a direct swap, and will make it easier for my wife and son to now raise the boat out of the water, Ha!

great! As it looks to me the difference between the 1200lbs and the 1500lbs is just the amount of teeth on the driving gear from the handle. That naturally justifies the higher price tag
