boat lift upgrade questions

Hello all
I recently got a new camp that comes with a lift. There's no weight rating or details on the lift. I was told the lift was used for a 20' wellcraft, which I looked up and weighs approx 2500. So I'd assume it's either a 3k or 4k lift.
I have a 23' Penn Yan that weighs 4300 dry.
The lift is manual wheel vertical, my question is if I change out the cables to new 1/4" (increasing the cable working load to 5200) will it work for my boat?

I would imagine, I would double check somewhere else though...like maybe with the manufacturer if you can find it

bcons, where did you look up the weight of your boat? I have a 1986 Wahoo 16' (B. Whaler knockoff) and am trying to find the weight for the same reason. I'm looking to install a lift but not sure what weight I should be looking at.

nada. com click consumer section, then click boats. Act like you're looking up book value. On the page where you select optional equipment right before it gives you a value of a boat it will list dry weight. One note of caution smaller boats with outboards it's hull only, add the weight of engine to whatever figure it gives you.

I looked here's one, they have 2 16' hulls listed

It has this hull listed at 725lbs then add weight of motor, add 7lbs for each gallon of gas capacity, then add 10% to the total for gear. Also with a smaller boat take into consideration your weight, will you be in the boat when on the lift? A big guy can add 15% to total weight.....
