I've got a 21' Wellcraft CC which I keep in a lift under my deck. The lift has a 3/4 hp, 1725 RPM motor with a small pulley. A v belt from the motor turns a large pulley attached to a worm gear. The worm gear turns a large gear which is fastened to a 2" pipe which has cables attached to 2 slings. The electric motor has burned out. A friend gave me a new 1/2 hp, 850 RPM motor. He told me to use a larger pulley on the motor to make up for the difference in RPMs. I can see where that would probably work but I am concerned about the hp difference. Does anyone here think it will work or should I just spring for the 200 bucks for a new motor? I have no idea how much the boat & 75 gal. of fuel weigh. Thanks for you help.

I think I'd go for a direct replacement. The smaller motor might let you down just when you needed it the most. Shop around at industrial suppliers for a price instead of just the lift manufacturer. As long as the motor meets the specs it will work.

Thanks for the help. I didn't think it would work very good and didn't want to go throught the trouble to change it out then have to re-do it. Read this site everyday and have gained a lot of knowledge.
