I can get out of hole and boat will plane out and run for about 250 yd or so then engine rpms will cut to 1000 from 4000. Primer bulb gets soft when the engine is running. From what i have read this should not be happening. I am planing on replaceing my bulb and fuel line to the motor from the filter. Is this a good idea or not. Only other thing I can think of is fuel pump is going bad.
What else should i check??? Carbs were just cleaned.

MOTOR: 88spl johnson 94 model.
BOAT: 17ft. osprey.

sorry, break down occurs around 4200-4500 rpms. Motor will idle at 600-800 rpms all day.

Do you pump your bulb before take off?
You could try pumping the bulb when your power loss occurs and see what happens, of course this is a two person job and be very careful. Don't want anyone falling out of the boat.
If your bulb get really soft I would replace.
Is the fuel filter before or after the bulb?
If its before, inspect it for gunk and clean or replace.

You could also check the whole fuel line going into the motor. My uncle had that problem with his 140 evinrude and they couldn't figure out any problems to fix, but he found out that the fuel line entering the motor was soft and collapsing and cutting off fuel flow under pressure when the motor was running full throttle.

sounds like the check valve in the bulb has gone bad. oh, and a real simple one... is the hose hooked up in the right direction (is the arrow on the bulb pointing towards the motor) don't ask me how i know this. what you could alwasys do is start the motor and run it for a bit to prime the engine. then shut off the motor and remove the bulb from the line. use a piece of pipe as a fitting and reconnect jopin the two pieces of hose together where the bulb used to be. fire up the motor and go for a rip. i bet you don't have any more rpm drop. just a guess.
