Hi all,
I'm curious to know when you buy a used boat, how much does the boat's maintenance record play a role in your purchase decision. Now, I'm referring to maintenance done by the boat owner versus a dealership with documentation. Would my boat lose value if I worked on it myself?

Re: Boat maintenance record

It means nothing to me. My decision to buy a boat is based exclusively on its present condition, not based on papers that document its past. But I'm just one person...many may disagree with me.

Present condition is a huge (the biggest) factor, but I always keep detailed records and receipts of all work. That includes DIY.

In my experience it can make or break a close deal, but only for some buyers.

If I'm buying, I like to know the prior owner followed a routine and can "prove" it... at least informally. Shows that he\she was a good owner.
