Define Gen II . . . What you list is really Gen III . . . Boat manufacturers do not use "engines" per se, they use engine drive packages. Almost all are supplied by Mercruiser and Volvo in the displacement ranges you are talking about (4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.2). Except for some Tournament boats and other inboards. The 4.3, 5.7 and 6.2 variants are basically the same between inboards and I/Os. The Gen III's have not been mass produced marinised yet, although I believe there was a Tournament boat vette engine or sumpin'. Can't recall who marketed it.

Untill they can do FRESH WATER cooling on every boat they will stick with IRON blocks and HEADS

A LOT of smaller boats dont really have the room to squezze in the extra parts

With all the problems i have seen in cars and trucks with gaskets and alu PARTS THE longer they wait the better

Re: Boat Manufacture Using Chevy Gen II engine

Sorry, I did mean GEN III.

Trucks already use iron blocks.
These engines are as small as the old reliable Small Block Chevy's
They may power VERY easy.
And very gas friendly.

Bell housing are is same bolt pattern as Small block.

AND Gm just release a Iron "LSX" variant with a 4.250 bore
that can be built into a 500 CU.In ( cost about $2000.00 bare)

As far as gasket problems go, since they were introduced in the truck line in late '98,
we have had ZERO head gasket failures in my service dept.

These engines are VERY SOLID.
