Re: boat mechanic

There are a few posts on this topic, try the search feature.

I believe member "DTS" has recently? gone thru this schooling. Hopefully you will hear from him on pay etc.

Local, northern Wis, shop owner says his problem is in finding mechanics that can work on snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, generators, motorcycles, pwc, lawnmowers, and outboards. With the limited seasons in the north, he needs employees that are qualified and experienced in all areas. Otherwise he can't pay them much.

This seems almost impossible to me. All the product lines and manufacturers require specific knowledge and tools in these high tech days. I figure this is his excuse to keep his guys at $11 an hour, and laid off for 5 months a year.

I asked him how he justified a $75 an hour labor charge when his guys only made $11 and weak benefits. I could understand $50. His reply was "where else you gonna go?"

Well he now has major local competion.

Re: boat mechanic

mike turned a wrench on the line for delta for 31 years. lot of times i got tired of the cold/rain/wind at newark and philly ( brakes and tires ) but i stuck it out. if you are with the majors ( northwest ) stick it out. things get better. the grass always looks greener. regards fred.
