Re: Boat motor smoking bad

It is normal for 2 strokes to smoke on start-up, Boating Man.

One might smoke more if there is residual oil in the fuel system, the fuel mix is too rich in oil or there is water getting into a cylinder and making steam.

Run her for a little while and see if it clears up some. Make sure you are using a 50:1 fuel/oil mix.

Do a compression test and let us know what you find.

Good luck. :)

Also, are you sure it's smoke? Could it be steam? If you're cooling system isn't working properly it will leave a steam trail behind it...

- Scott
