Boat Overheated, What should I check?

We took the boat out today, after putting on a new waterpump. Boat ran great, had no problems at all. Temp stayed about 165-170.After about three hours of run time I noticed the belt starting to squeak at a little above idle.I stopped and checked it out, alternator belt was extremely loose and was very wore (I just replaced the belt last week) I tightened the belt up and headed for shore. While waiting on the trailer to get backed in the water I run the boat up the lake just a little bit so I could circle around, noticed a squeak at higher rpms this time and temperature quickly started to shoot up, I ran about a quarter throttle back to the ramp, about 50sec run time, the temp. got a little over 200. As soon as I got close enough to the trailer that I could coast the rest of the way in I shut it down. The alternator belt had broke, this belt also spins the pulley that turns the sea water pump. Should anything be checked? Will I be alright. The boat never made any funny noises or I didnt notice any smells besides burnt rubber.

What is causing the belt to smoke and wear so quick? Alternator bearing bad possibly?

Rusty pulleys will eat a belt up like sand paper.

Shouldn't be any problem at all as long as the temp didn't get much past 200. It probably gets hotter than that heat-soaking when you shut it down. Make sure the pulleys are aligned and not rusty like Don says.

Spare belts, water hose repair tape and splices, and the tools to use them are real handy to have out on the water .....
