I am restoring my boats interior, it has carpeting now. I want to pull the carpet up and paint it white. Similar to that of a newer boat. Does anyone know what paint would be best? Something thicker yet smooth.

Thanks!

What is the deck made of? Fiberglass? For a paint to look good, the surface must be real smooth. Normal boat paint is enamel or Polyurethane. Polyurethane is better. Are you planning to add non-slip agent to paint?

The floor looks to be wood with a fiberglass covering. After I posted this I did some online looking. And I found a paint called kiwi grip? It says it has the slip agent in it. I'd like to hear your opinion on it. Thanks!

If you want it to look like the new boats pull the carpet and cover it with Nautolex or equivalent.

Your deck was designed to have a covering on it. If you paint it, it'll look like crap, not like a new boat. New ones are gelcoated.

It sounds like you are trying to put paint on and make it look like gelcoat. It really isn't a good idea. It will not look as good as gelcoat and will probably flake in a few short years. The prep work for painting a floor that had carpet is intense. ALL areas must be sanded extremely well before painting. Fiberglass is porous and if any oil has been spilled over the years on the carpet you will have problems. But, if you are dead set on painting I would get a bright side polyurethane like Petit or Interlux and follow the directions on the can verbatim. Best bet is to get some carpet and glue and put that down. It will probably be easier and look better.
