A close friend of mine just bought a used 16ft open bow runabout. He was very anxious to get it in the water and either used too small a ball or did not adjust hitch accordingly. To make matters worse, no tow chains.

He's pulling up GA. 400 (65 mph) and looks in his rear view mirror suprised to see the hitch about come through the back window of his SUV. The only thing connecting the trailer to the SUV is the wiring harness. He hits the gas and tugs the harness out, pulling the tounge back towards the ground. The boat then proceeded to pass him going 50-60mph slowly bouncing the tounge on the road as it passed.

The boat came back into his lane in front of him and slowly veered off the side of the hwy, eventually coming to a stop. No damage at all! He hooks it back up, adjusts the hitch and we enjoy the day on the lake. Some people have all the luck!
