Let me start by saying I am about 95% sure on what I want to do, and have begun my research into it.

I have my 27' IMP Liberty with twin 3.7LXs that I have been working on for some time. I purchased the boat, as well as two good motors to make a nice cheap express cruiser with some custom work inside. when I purchased the boat I knew it had some issues, but structurally it looked pretty good. I dig some stringer checking and it looked like I would be fine. Fast forward to now as the project is ramping up, and I am gutting the boat out. Low and behold just aft of where I checked and found good stringers, they appeared dark. Just at the bulkhead to the fuel tank I found what no boater wants to see. Destroyed epoxy and rot. Bad rot. The bulkhead itself in this area was rotted too. The previous owner had left the drain plug in, and without needing to say more, I think there might be more significant issues in areas I can't get direct access to. My guess is from the aft cabin back the stringer is gone, motor mount area, and most likely the transom.

Here I sit with a 27' unsafe boat, and a lot of usable parts. would you guys take the time to get into the structure, find whats bad and fix it? Or with the economy as it sits would you try and part what you had and go for something safe and mechanically sound?

Give me honest opinions, no matter how mean. I need the kick in the "you know what" to finalize my choice and part ways with this boat, before it's too late.

Boat Project Opinions Wanted

Ayuh,... I get into Trouble when these things go down,..
So,... This is only My Honest Opinion...

I wouldn't spend a Dime on a 470 powered boat,... Period...
Unless I had the intention of swapping the 470s out to Chevy power....

With Power coming from Anything but a 470 or OMC,..
There's the off chance you could call it an Investment...
With either, I see it as a Waste of time,+ Money....

I feel really bad for you 25th. You were doing nice work on this boat and clearly taking pride in it. You knew what you were getting into with the 470s but were being smart about everything. Major bummer.

In my opinion, the value of all the parts you have there is probably worth more than the complete boat. I'd part it out and find another project.

Thanks guys and the harsh opinions are needed. I think the negetives out weigh the positives here and selling my good parts might be the best bet. Will be sad to see this hull go to scrap but I just don't know about trying to get rid of another cheap/free hull again.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the above posters. If it was your dream boat and you were going to replace all of the stringers/transom with composite stuff and you had planned on replacing the 470's with 350's or something similar, I'd say go for it. But you will be dropping $2K+ just to get the hull in usable condition, and that's if you do the work yourself. The engine issues will be another $3K per side. You will end up with 10K in a boat that isn't worth 10K.
