Boat Purchase Advice

I am looking to upgrade boats from my old glastron tri-hull and would like some advice about what to buy. I use this for skiing and touring with my family on freshwater rivers and lakes. I definitely want a bow rider of some sort, preferably used. First question, the size. I don't want something to big and heavy. The main complaint about my current boat is how hard it slaps the water in chop. So, I want something to cut though wakes and small chop good. I was looking at 18ft-20ft. Second, the engine type & size. I have always had outboards and love the way they run (my 115 Merc is still running great after 30 years). But, I have been told that I/O are better faster, cheaper, & easier to maintain. But, I am worried about the weight and power ratio. If I go to an I/O, I have been told that Volvo's are more reliable. Third, the year & manufacturer. I was looking at a 2000-2004 Maxum, Sea Ray, or maybe a Bayliner (in that order) focused on sturdiness. Any suggestions or comments?

Re: Boat Purchase Advice

outboards are much easier and cheaper to maintain. less winterizing, no manifold to change, no bellows to change, out drive needs to be pulled and service, gimbal bearing. can't see spark plugs. this is just the beginning,

look at the deckboats also, they have more useable space than the standard bow rider.
