So I'm interested in a boat that someone brought down from GA where they have no title (bill of sale only)? I know in FL buying a boat with out a title is a big no no.
Should I just run now:confused:
Can anyone shed some light on this???

You can do a title search and possibly file for lost title IF you can locate whom ever's name is on the title. You can call your local dmv and they can tell you pretty quickly on what route you would need to take...

Georgia does not issue titles for boats, however they do register boats for the purpose of fee collection. You can't file for a lost title when there isn't one to find. Saying that, a search of FL DMV tells you how to do it. Basically the seller needs to provide the last registration paper work and a bill of sale to you. Call or stop in at your local DMV - A lot of states do not title boats and there must be a way to transfer. Here in GA cars, trucks and motorcycles are not titled after a certain age. FL has a way to transfer these also. Here's a link for FL DMV title/registration http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/FFFVO.pdf
It's a pdf so it might open slow.

There would be a title if the boat didn't originally come from Georgia...

Thanks GA_Boater for the info. I will be calling the DMV in the morning to see how much of an ordeal this will be.
I still might be inclined not to hand over any money unless the seller goes to the DMV with me.
The whole no title thing makes me very nervous in a State that requires them.
