Please unlock the caps lock, Skibot. Caps are considered SHOUTING.

If you want that Kenwood to live, keep it out of the boat. Put a marine unit in.

Good luck. :)

Do you have a cuddy? go you go on salt water? I would use it if I were you personally would rather burn a radio up over a season then have it on the shelf in the garage and spend money on a new one. Its not like its a safty device worse come to worse you dont have tunes you can cheap out on the creature comforts. :) just my 2 cents

Re: BOAT RADIO/CD PLAYER QUESTION

For what it's worth, there are about two marine radios i can think of that are "waterproof" and may hold up, problem is they are very expensive ($300+)..

The lower cost marine models last just as long as anything else.. Marine, Auto, First time they get wet, they go "poof"...

I'd find the absolute dryest spot you can find to mount it, get the splash cover and run with the Kenwood that you already have... Just plan on replacing it every couple years, maybe sooner..

Standard/Horizon make some mighty fine sounding two way 6" speakers, and they're pretty easy on the wallet.. ;)

Re: BOAT RADIO/CD PLAYER QUESTION

Marine units have a sealer on the curcuit board (to guard against corrosion) and splash proof buttons. The very expensive ones have waterproof housings, CD player excluded.

I use an auto cd player (couldn't afford marine) and its housed in a sealed box. 2 Years so far, no problems. It's cheap enough to replace every few years if need be.

Aldo

Re: BOAT RADIO/CD PLAYER QUESTION

There's a guy on ebay that sells marinized kenwood units at a decent price. Basically the circuit board is sealed, it's not waterproof.

Do a search on Kenwood marine or marine stereo. I think the guy is audio allies. He's got really good prices on speakers also.

I picked up some pioneer marine speakers and amp from him - they sound great.

Re: BOAT RADIO/CD PLAYER QUESTION

Salt water - no.
Freshwater - I've had an off-the-shelf high power Pioneer with detachable face for four years with absolutely no trouble. It is mounted in a box with the flip down lid in my console.
On the other hand, my brother-in-law had a "marine" rated Clarion which bit the dust after one month. (New Larson deck boat - but had same mounting box, also freshwater).
I would try it.
