I have a 1986 Bayline with a chevy 305 and a volvo 275 outdrive. After about a year of tweeking this and tweeking that and several long drives to the lake I was finally ready. Put the boat in the water fired right up. Left the dock it was running great. Ran it about an hour to an hour and a half then all of a sudden she just died. Tried to fire it up just turned over then it would cough and backfire out the carb. After sitting and floating closer and closer to shore she finally fired back up and I was off to the dock. Got to the dock and it started dieing agian. So I went and got the car backed it in went back fired it up and it ran good. I dont know does anyone have any ideas? I check all the fuel filters all clean. No water in the oil and oil is full. I pulled off the top half of the outdrive and there was oil in the U Joint bellow as well as the gear oil was milky white. Could this be my cause?

Thanks
Matt

Nothing to do with the drive (bellows, water in the oil, etc) is going to make it die then start back up. Anything in the drive system makes it die there's gonna be a big bang or crunching sound and it won't move again till you fix it!

Can't troubleshoot it when it's running fine. You've either got an electrical or fuel problem. See if you can get it to die on the hose at home, then see if you've got spark and go from there.

Sorry, not much help, intermittent stuff is hard to troubleshoot sometimes.
