Boat rating and motor over powering question

I just have a quick question about a boat I recently bought.

The motor is a 1985 Mercury 115 serial A127747 115HP
The boat is rated for 100HP

I'm not looking on racing through the water or pushing forward on the gear to its fullest, I just want to go fishing! Because its relaxing and usually, the fight is fun. With that said, is the extra 15HP going to be a huge problem ?

Thanks,
Frank

forgot to add, the boat is a 16" fiberglass bass boat. (unsure of the make and model, will look later today)

Frank, from a handling and extra weight point of view, I would not think the extra HP would be an issue. The legal point of view may be different.

It is technically over powered but by such a small amount I wouldn't worry, if you had a 150 or 200 it would be diffrent but 15 horse shouldn't cause any problems mechanically anyhow, I am not a lawyer so I don't know about that part of it.

Re: Boat rating and motor over powering question

thanks guys.. I appreciate your response. I was mainly concerned about safety with the over power...
Like I said, I don't plan on over doing the speed and going crazy. I have a motorcycle for that. :-D

As for the legal part, I guess I'll take my chances... I should be fine though.

Thanks again,
Frank
