go to the tax collector here and tell them exactly what happened. you bought it in georgia and only have bill of sale. only they can tell you whats up, not us

There is a form you fill out for situations like this. I did it with a lost bill of sale and the seller had deceased since sale. If the clerk says differently find another clerk or call the state office...that's what I had to do to get it straight.

Basically, the form needs the boat info and your signature swearing it isn't stolen property. Being that it is a 1986 they will want the vin number and probably want to see the boat to verify the numbers.

Re: Boat registration ...in FL need help

I sort of had the same problem many years ago when I bought an inflatable boat in NY and took it to Fl. In the end, they accepted that there was no previous title, and what I had to do was literally go to the plate (not sure what it's called) that carries the information on total acceptable weight, horsepower, etc. This plate is usually riveted to the transom or there about. Beside the other information, there is usually a manufacturer's serial number engraved in the plate. I had to literally cover the plate with a piece of paper, and run a pencil over it to transfer the information onto the paper, like kids do in arts and crafts class all the time! No kidding. But it worked, and all were happy.
