He'll have to get the signed title to the boat, motor and trailer....They have seperate titles in Texas.

Sometimes a bill of sale and a notorized affadavit confirming loss of title by prior owner can suffice.

the boat and motor are titled through TPWD (Texas Parks Wildlife Department), trailer is throught the DMV.

Thanks Kelton, he already talked to the dmv and they told him the same thing, but he dosn't know where the guy is, is there any way in Texas to get an abandoned title or something like that I know here in Okla we can do that but don't know about Texas, it's a older boat and had motor problems when he got it, he has since repaired the motor and did some repairs on the boat and trailer, and now can't get the stickers for it, my brother in law said the guy is upstanding and dosn't think the boat would be stolen he probaly just forgot to give him the titles when he moved, i told him he better run the numbers through dmv to make sure.

There is a form that you (I) have (had) to get. you are suppose to still have it signed by the guy who sold the boat, plus you have to do a tracing of the HID, and SN or the boat & motor.
What ever you do, DO NOT forge this form ;) .

I had a similair problem. They guy who sold me the boat, never registred it in his name. So I had to get sigs from some guy I could not find. you can guess what I did. However I did have a paper trail (bill of sales) that supported the sales.\

it was a pain in the rear, but I got my boat registered. I'll try to post a link to the forms for you

I can't find the link I was looking for, but this one might provide some help.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/boat/requirements_for_transactions.phtml

Thanks Boaterntexas i'll get the forms print em off and send them to my brother in law then he can deal with it, here in okla all you have to do is get a abandoned title, they do a title search if it's not stolen they will give you a clear title.
