Our lower unit line for oil from the trim bottle of lube needed to be replaced. They had to remove the lower unit

now two issues:
1 - trim gauge works but is reading wrong. All the way down on the trim now reads about half way down on the gauge. It’s way off but works as far as functionality.
2- speedometer stops at about 20 mph even though Boat was going 40 on gps.

Ideas?

Trim senders May need adjusted, the wires are shorted or the senders are bad. Just looking wrong at a trim sensor can kill an older one that waters leaked into touch it and there dead. Ive pulled mine apart a few times scrubbed the contacts up filled them with dielectric grease and managed a couple more Year’s it’s also possible they greased the pivots to much and filled one of them.
The pito tube may be plugged it the rubber hose might be kinked to the gauge it’s got to be hooked up to it wouldn’t work.

Ok so I’m the trim senders on the side of lower unit. Which side starboard or port? Also just clean them out?

where do I check the line for the speedometer and how do I clear it?

The gauge sender is on the starboard side

They had to remove the lower unit

2- speedometer stops at about 20 mph even though Boat was going 40 on gps.

When the drive was removed my guess is the hose and or fitting was not installed correctly or damaged. Raise the drive and have a look at the fitting, it can be removed by rotating 1/4 turn. If it was not disconnected prior to removal, the hose may have been damamged

Sometimes speedos get corroded (saltwater only, I hope), and will not read correctly.

Often Alpha drive trim limit and trim gauge senders rot out in saltwater. The fix for the trim it to learn to trim by feel, sound and boat handling. It is a much better way to do it, as gauges cannot compensate for load variations and water conditions.

Okay, thanks guys. I've tried the following.

For speedometer: I took 5/16 bit and cleaned out hole. Nothing in it above torpedo. Then I took off wire and there is a little tiny pin hold leading into the main hole on white plastic. Didn't really mess with that, but didn't feel or see clogs.
Put back on. Still reading about 20 mph top speed... Reads 0-20 then stops, even though I'm going over 40 mph on GPS.

For Trim: I removed both port and starboard trim gauge caps, cleaned out and put back on. Adjusted the copper points slightly on there. No change yet.

What's frustrating is both of these were working until they replaced the oil lower unit line.

This shouldn't work but just wonder if they didn't happen to swap the leads ( sender for switch, and switch for sender)

Another thought is look close at the senders on the ring and see if they are marked differently

Then I took off wire and there is a little tiny pin hold leading into the main hole on white plastic.

I don't understand this comment

I would take it back to where it was repaired at and have then fix the problems they caused.
