Well, after being a member of USAA since 1994, they decided to raise their rates. Haven't had a claim or anything like that. They "claim" that they had to raise their rates for Oklahoma to stay "competitive." Yeah, right...whatever....sooooooo, I did some looking around on the internet and there are better rates to be had with the same identical coverage. Have any of ya'll used Progressive insurance? I snooped around in the 'net and really didn't come across a bunch of negative things about them. Of course, some people are going to complain, but the jest have been somewhat positive. Plus, for the same price and actually better coverage, I can insure both the Seadoo and the boat for the same price with just the boat alone with USAA. I'm just nervous about dropping them because I've been with them so long. But, with the wife unemployed now, I need to try and save some money. I wouldn't mine paying a little more, but when I can save 60 bucks a month, I'm all over it.

Re: Boat/Seadoo insurance

I've been insured with Progressive for a couple of years -- gradually switching from Farmers Insurance Group who I had been with for decades and could no longer tolerate their ever increasing rates. My boat and home are also insured with them. I've not had any claims so I can't tell you how effective that process is. I can tell you the rate differences are significant. Progressive has a program where if you want to go with it, allows you to plug a device into the diagnostic port on your vehicles. They cannot track where you drive but they monitor "how" you drive and the time of day you travel, acceleration rates, panic stops, and speeds you travel. Anything under 75 MPH does not mean anything to them. That device makes a better and safer driver out of you and because of that, the renewal rates actually decreased. Since they don't have agents to support, it stands to reason they can have lower rates. I'm retired so our travels are fairly local except when I'm towing the boat or going on a road trip.

USAA partners with progressive to insure boats and jet skis. I just went direct to progressive when I learned this. I get a great rate. My buddy also uses them and saw his rate significantly increase after buying and selling two trucks in one year, and after they has something wrong with this length of having credit history.

I wonder how different they will be than the USAA rate, since that is essentially who you already have for jet ski insurance.

My ins. agent got me the best price from Progressive and so far i'm happy with them. It's your money and you should never be afraid to leave any company for better rates, that's called competition, and if the other company wants your business they will get the message when enough people leave them.

Re: Boat/Seadoo insurance

Thanks for that information. I called Progressive and one of the "agents" on the phone had told me that also, but I kind of didn't agree with him. Great to hear it and that it was all legit, restored confidence in me towards Progressive.
I guess for years, all I heard was that USAA had the best rates. In fact, when I use to shop around for car insurance, almost every insure would ask me whom I'm with now and I'd say USAA, they would then tell me that there is no way they could beat their rates. So, I kind of went with that mentallity for some time now. Guess I need to start getting serious about this before 9/19, current policy expires.
