Hello,

I am currently reworking a 1989 bass tracker. I plan on adding two seats to the front of the boat. The seats will be between the console and the casting deck that I have shortened. I want to be able to remove the seats when not needed for passengers, and was thinking about using Base plates and pedestals to acclomplish this. The base plates will be attached to the floor deck.

My question is this: Is it safe for me to be running at speed with this configuration? People in seats on 12" pedestals.

Thanks,
Travis

Just make sure that the pedestals you buy are rated for use while moving. When shopping for pedestals for my last boat I found that most are not.

Funny.....Yeah, the there's no way the old Tracker's getting anywhere near 60.

TBar - Do you know of any specific peds that are rated for use while moving?

The ones I bought are the 2 3/8 inch aluminum ones, and even they need to be locked in position for moving more than 5 mph. The posts don't come off the base at all.

I kinda doubt you'll find a removeable pedestal seat that's meant for use when moving. Too much force/stress involved.

Also, how you attach the bases to your deck will affect the stability of the seats, no matter their rating. You will definitely need through bolts with backing plates.

to ride forward of the console you need some sort of bow rail.

tashasdaddy, are you saying that i need to install something like what is circled red, where I have the yellow circle? Is that a coast guard requirement?

I may just build a bench instead, with removable seats...I was hoping to have more floor deck space though.

Re: boat seat pedestals

On my last boat I redid I got all my mounts and pedestals from Springfields scratch and dent site. And everything looked perfect as far as I could tell.

I cant think off the top of my head which model I ended up with but I bought swivel mounts for my drivers and passengers seats that where rated for driving and I could remove them just leaving the floor plates.
