I have a 1996 Skeeter ZX200c w/ 2001 Yamaha 200 on a 10" jackplate. Currently the motor is 4" below the pad. Am I in the right place or do I need to go higher? Also, what pitch prop should I be running? I am currently running a 23 pitch @ about 63 mph gps.

The height of the cavitation plate should be level with or slightly above the bottom of the transom. The pitch prop is detirmined by what you use the boat for. If you want a hole shot, go with a lower pitch prop. If you want a higher top end speed, go with a higher. If the prop is right for your situation, at WOT, you need to check that the rpm's are where they are supposed to be. If they're too high, than you want to get a higher pitch prop and vice versa.

Need more info ie rpm @WOT, quality of hole shot. Do you have a water pressure guage? Suggest you post this in the Props forum. Those folks will likely be able to help u get your setup right

I'm somewhat familiar with that package. I suggest Mercury's Hifh-Five with a Yamaha hub kit. You can jack the motor way up and reduce the amount of gearcase dragging thru the water. Less drag = more speed. There are vents in the prop that can be selectively plugged to fine-tune your holeshot. You may be able to twist a 25 with a light load. You'll want that water pressure guage. You can jack the water pump pickups right out of the water if you're not careful. This would get you the most speed short of investing a ton in a custom prop and hi-perf gearcase. 68mph seems to be about the limit short of spending mucho dinero on hi-perf stuff, although one customer claimed 73. But he did reeds, too. And he knew this guy that tweaked his 23" prop (probably repitched it to a 24). You're looking for 6,000 RPMs @ full throttle and fully trimmed.<br /><br />It'd be worthless for waterskiing. And in rough water.
