So, I took some of my friends out today and to prep the boat before launch one of them unhooked the strap and chain on the trailer from the boat thinking it was Ok. Started backing the boat down the launch and all I see is the boat start to slide down!!! It landed on the outdrive, skidded down a few feet, then stopped. After I cleaned myself up after crapping my drawers...we were able to wench it back onto the trailer. All seemed fine today, as the lower unit wasn't cracked and no sign of oil. Reservoir also stayed full. Attached is a pic...to the front of the drain plug it's a little worn down. The skag appears to be unharmed.

As long as it runs fine, is it ok? Can I just put some paint on there or should I have it looked at? I did learn a good lesson today...don't let anyone else touch your boat!!!!

I think your fine, also don't know of a shop that has the thickness measurments and the micrometers to measure how much ou have left. If it were mine I would put some paint on it and go boating.

Also have your buddy supply a case of bear for your nerves

Have to say unfortunately I have had "well intentioned" friends like that, too. Lesson learned: My guests now only do what I instruct them to do (this is included in their briefing on the way to the lake), and always do a walk-around before leaving the prep area. Did he even apologize? (I can only imagine how bad he probably feels, and bet he wont make that mistake again!!).

Prime and paint and plan next weekend's trip is my vote.

As KT said, always do a final walk-around before back down; even if you're doing it by yourself.

I've realized there's 3 kinds of helpers:
1-those that are "experienced enough" that know you ask the boat owner IF you can help and what to help with
2-the complete novice who doesn't know what to do anyway so they should not be a problem
3-that leaves the one who knows enough to be dangerous.
My son is now in section 3 but the final responsibility is mine as the last one to validate "ready to go"

clean it real good and apply the plumbers epoxy.home depot carries it. has the hardener in the middle. knead it to uniform color and press into voids.sand and paint when it hardens.
try seeing one slide about 30 something feet down the ramp.saw one pop off a trailer and slide over 200 feet down the road too.

If you paint it without filling the damaged area, don't forget to use a self etching primer, otherwise the paint will be gone on the first ride. Took me a while to learn that lesson.
