I have a 99 Volvo 5.0 GL-carbeurated. When I first fire the engine, it will runs for about 30 seconds and then stalls. I crank it a few times and then fires back up again and then runs fine. This seems to happen like clockwork. Doesn't happen during the day while it is being used. Only happens once it sits for a week or so after being used.

Here are some specifics on fuel system. Has inboard tank with newly replaced hose going to fuel pump housing. From top of the electric fuel pump, I have a new volvo specific flared hose.

It seems like there is enough fuel in the line from the pump to the float bowl and then seems to run out. But after a few cranks, it will prime itself again. Could the fuel be running back into the tank from the fuel filter? I have checked all connection for leaks. Everything clean. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance

sounds like fuel dropping back

you could fit a priming bulb in-line

Change the filter and eliminate that as a possibility.

post your step by step blow by blow starting procedure when cold.
that motor does NOT like being started at a dead idle when cold.
