Re: boat stands/jack

I saw one setting on old "couches" a few weeks ago. Looked right at home in Arkansas...lol.
Might try to make your own, or, find somebody that can make some for you?
Check with a few Marina's see if you can borrow, rent, buy used ones?

question for you -- how are you going to move the 31 foot boat from the boatyard to your house?

6x6's cost about 25 bucks these days you may be able to come out a little better but lumber is still expensive. what ever you do, be SAFE ...good luck man.......

Re: boat stands/jack

I refurbished a 29 footer by setting the bow on a stack of pallets, then ran a 4X4 from the stern forward along the chine line. I supported the 4X4 with more pallets in 3 areas. We went through a couple of bad storms (80+MPH) and she stayed there. It wasn't as pretty as boat stands, but I had 20 bucks in the whole setup, then I used the 4X4s to fix my fence, then had a pallet guy come by and pick up the pallets at no charge.

rdsr,
I just purchased brand new stands for storing my 35 Silverton Convertible over the harsh MD winter, the prices were half those you are finding and shipping was very reasonable. Check out www.marina-accessories.com or call Keith @ 800-585-6890.

Do you have a solid place to put it in your back yard ? Or is it grassy ?

Your going to need blocks for your keel ( 3 places IMO ) .. then I would jackstand it. They might charge you more when your start the measure and cut thing for an hour.

Id start trolling arount the marinas or other places that use stands. They might have old rusty stands and jacks that they will never use because the yard guys let them go to rust ). You would need 4 stands ( possible 2 lows and 2 mediums. Start to spay them down with PB blaster or something again and again. You might have to replace some plywood or covering for the tops of beat up jacks.

We have a bin load of the Crap here that will not be used agian simply because they will never have time to refurbish.

I would think you could get em for 30-40 bucks a pop..then refurb.

Remember.. Those truck drivers wont be happy sitting around for hours waiting for you to get your lumber cut :) . A happy driver is a conscience driver ;) .

Get your ducks together before they show up .. they will most likely help you if they see this.

Just be sure the stands are in good condition, and they are used correctly. Lost a guy at work last year because his car came down on him while working under it. He slowly suffocated under the weight of the car.

Not car jack stands :)

But you do have a good point in making sure the welds on the stands are in good condition.

Remember there only for balance .. not support.
