I have a 1998 Bass Tracker PanFish. Had it since new. Over the years I accessorized it to my liking. Several years ago I added a stereo (name unknown at this time). Ran the power wire directly to the cranking battery. Grounded radio and installed antennae. Stereo seems to work very well at most times. Here is where I have issues with it. I like talk radio (usually on am) and occasionally music (fm). When stereo is on and I am anchored/drifting it plays well on am & fm. If I start the motor while on am the radio all but dies off, meaning you can't hear it, like it is being robbed of power. This is also true when I am using the trolling motor (different battery & only item on this circuit) and even if I plug something like my phone into the 12v receptacle, I also have electric anchor, same issue. No problems with the stereo on fm. This is second stereo I had installed and the issues were/are the same.
The power line is fused and no problems with it blowing. I also have additional light wires run to the starting battery. When lights are on no problem with stereo, just when running motor, trolling motor and using 12v receptacle.
Would it make any difference if I ran/installed a power block for all accessories that way each accesory can have its own terminal screw? What could be causing this interference? Could it just be interference from other items running and not robbing it of power? Any solutions.
Thanks.
