boat stuck in gear

i have a 1979 house boat with twin chevy 305's and what i think are tr-2 mecruser transmissions.i was out the other day and my starboard side stuck in gear and now will not come out.does any one have any suggestions.a buddy told me my clutch pack my be frozen because of water in the tranny fluid.the boat actually belongs to a buddy of mine who is fighting in the war in iraq and if you know any thing about what we pay our national guard troops to defend our freedom you will understand why i would like to find the most economical way to fix it for him.

tranny needs to be pulled and rebuilt- clutch packs melted together due to lack of oil .If you know you have water in it then thats the problem

thanks for the insight,im not sure if there is water in it or not but will check it out.could there be any other cause?and does the boat need to be pulled from the water to do it?
