My 23' Cruiser sunk in fresh water. The engine was started and winterized right after recovery. The engine starts fine and run good except it has little power. It only gets 3500 rpms in drive and is slow to get on plane. Almost seems like not enough throttle cable.

I have replaced fuel filter, carb fuel filter, fuel, spark plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, coil. I have rebuilt the carb and even tried a new prop. I am out of ideas. Any help would be great.

Thank

727Driver

I don't know if it is advancing correctly. How would I test that to find out.

Thanks

With a Timing Light.....
Point it at the marker,+ rev up the motor...
Does the Marker Move ????

if it has vacume advance you can use a vacume pump and see if it moves with the cap off or you can suck on the hose if you don't smoke also ck the mecanical advance take of the roter and see if the plates under it are rusted

Re: Boat Sunk

If the boat sunk, is it still heavy with water? All that extra weight will really slow a boat down, both getting on plane as well as max rpm.

Re: Boat Sunk

I am going to try checking the timing and distributor for problems.

Yes, boats with water get very heavy. There was water in the cuddy compartments that needed help draining. I can sew so I redid the seats myself. The captain's chairs without water logged wood and cushions weighed about 35lbs less each. So at first the boat would not plane off at all. Remove lots-o-water and it will now plane off. but still I have the lack of power problem.

But if the water has penetrated or saturated the floatation foam material that is below the deck, you potentially are still carrying alot of water weight.

Since the maximum rpm of the engine can be achieved in neutral, I would lean towards the fact that something else is slowing you down, like added weight.
