What is needed to register a boat in MA? I have a boat that is from CT but the owner cant find the title. What can I do to get this boat in the water....??

I have an old registration he gave me that almost looks like a title.... Haven't gone to DMV yet but can the MA DMV do a title search?

there is no title for boats in CT..... I had the same problem where the previous owner couldn't find it.

Turned out nobody knew CT doesn't do titles till he went to the DMV to straighten it out!

What title? How many other states don't do titles?

Maine does not do Boat Titles. No ATV titles either.

Having done this last year in MA it is easy.

From a non-title state you need a bill of sale, a copy of the registration from the previous state and a tracing of the hull number. You also need to pay the sales tax before you can get it registered.

To pay sales tax online: https://wfb.dor.state.ma.us/WebFile/WSI/Public/WebForms/ST6/RecreationTaxDefault.aspx

Form you should print and complete ahead of time: http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/registrationtitlingform.pdf

They are going to charge you $25 for a title and then for me it was $60 for 2 year registration. Much better than the DMV who charged me like $55 for a title and $45 for 1 year on the trailer.
