Last Summer I had my two young children out with me in, what was our boat then, a 14 foot cadorette with a 30 horse chrysler (old). About three miles from our home we lost power and I started to paddle. We were getting no where fast trying to paddle up river so I went ashore and broke down the tallest dead tree I could find. After stripping all branches from trunk I proceeded to try using the tree trunk as a pole to push off the bottom with. This was equally ineffective. Along came a guy on a jet-ski, with offers of assistance, and we were going to be late for the kids' swimming lesson so I asked him if he could pull us home. He was happy to oblige, but because the rope on the front of the boat was only about 12ft. long, we had a constant stream of water pouring in from the back of the jet-ski. The kids had a blast and got soaked, we made it home in time, and I ran the bilgepump for a long time at the dock!
Come to think of it, this episode is probably what convinced me to get a bigger/better boat with the hope of avoiding such embarrasments
After reading other posts I can see that pride floats!
