Finally replacing my wheel hubs and wheels. What's the go to for wheel bearing grease? I do have the "EZ Lube" spindle if that matters.

From Lucas I've seen the red, green, and blue grease. Blue being marine, but I don't know if a trailer being dunked in the water for a short period of time be considered marine use. It sees way more time on the road obviously, and the red stuff is still "water proof"

And then there is the green stuff. Just extra heavy duty compared to the red stuff I guess.

definitely use a marine grade grease.

Are your new wheel hubs prepackaged?
If so, try to use the same type of grease. Same brand if possible.

Greases with different bases are often not compatible, and will get runny and leak out through the seals.

If the new hubs are not packed yet, pick a name brand making grade grease, and continue using the same grease.
Buy a few tubes and keep them handy so you know what to buy the next time you need to buy some.

My 2 Karavan trailers came with Sure-Lube hubs, using
Chevron-Texaco Starplex 2 red Lithium grease.

I got prepacked bearings in the drums I bought, and I called the vendor to find out what grease was used, in order to mix types.

I went with a lithium-based marine grease for compatibility.

When I installed new hub/drums back in 2004 I was using lithium based Pennzoil Marine blue grease and when they stopped making that I switched to Lucas Marine lithium based blue grease. Also use it for the gimble bearing and the u joints on the I/O...no problems with any of them...100% salt water use..

Ok flip that around: is it ok to use your favorite marine-grade grease on your utility trailer? Mower spindles? Truck suspension zerks? Etc...
It would be great not to have several guns hanging around, and trying to keep track of exactly what's loaded in each.

Anybody follow this plan?

I agree 100%. Through the years I accumulated many tubes of grease. After looking at the same grease compatibility chart I realized some of the grease I had was not compatible with one another, that explains why the grease would drip from the hubs. Use a marine grade, you're not talking about a lot of $.

You mentioned the brand of grease in your letter, which I removed, because it's a perfectly good product, and the correct one for your application upsers. Specifically, i t ' s an aluminum-complex grease, and this type of grease has excellent performance when there's a chance of water contamination, like on your trailer.

Yes I do that, the only vehicle that we have with grease fittings on the suspension is our old '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and its been getting marine grease in the steering linkage, ball joints etc for years.

I'll be happy to toss my rainbow assortment of grease and guns and use only green marine in everything.
I only like ONE of my guns anyways.
