My grandson has a problem with tire wear on his trailer which he bought at a boat dealer and a boat too ,package deal.I am wondering if the trailer was made and set for two or three years. He thought it might be the axel was weak or not built properly.I read a post about the manafacturing date and I will have him to check that out. Is the date stamped on the tire on the inside or the outside ? If there is more suggestions please advise me about this problem.

Re: boat trailer tires worn

Underinflation is the biggest factor in tire wear. Always inflate the tires to the maximum PSI on the sidewall of the tire. The date code is on the sidewall of the tire but tires can be installed in either direction so it may be on the outside. It is a four digit code like 0109 (indicates the first week of the year 2009. Yes -- an overloaded trailer can contribute to tire wear as does an axle that is not designed for the load. Contrary to popular belief, the trailer and boat are not always packaged by the boat manufacturer. The dealer very often sells the package but it is the dealer that puts the trailer under the boat and calls it a package. They very often select a trailer that is very close to the maximum load limit on these package deals. Load a bunch of stuff in the boat and it suddenly becomes over loaded.

It's also possible the axle is not properly aligned on the springs.
