boat trouble

i have a 40 hp johnson made in 1969 and i am having problems it starts great, but the is no power give it some gas (throttle) is boggs down, and has no hp....can someone give advice on repairing this ?????

first thing do a compression test you should get yourself a manual you may need to clean the carbs a manual will thak you through the steps
