Am new here but wanted to share my joyfull experience waxing my boat the other week. An individual advised me to give Scotch guard liquid marine wax a shot. He's been using it on his barge for a long time and said I would be shocked at the ease of use and finish it leaves. Well I bought a jug a bit pricey but what a dream it was to do the boat, wax flowed on in a breeze and came off the same way, oxidation was gone the only thing left was a stunning eye catching shine. It's the black bottle with the purple label around $30 smackers but worth every penny.:)

Tell me, do you speak with a heavy British accent and sell hand-hammered woks, as well?

Sorry I offended you! I'll do my best to lower my standards for my next post, didn't anticipate I would offend someone.

I was just at the store and saw that stuff. They sure don't give it away, but next time I need some wax I will give it a try. I have a buddy who likes it as well.

Pledge is easy to use as well. :D

Don't care if it's easy to use if you have to use it every other week. How long does it last?

Can't answer how long it lasts yet, but so far I am very happy with it. I ran out of my Maguires in August halfway through waxing, and finished up with the 3M scotchguard stuff (yes, its one of the 3M waxes). I have been real happy so far.

I am also wary of products that apply and remove with ease...

how much of the 30 dollar jug did you have to use? i don't think i could bring myself to spend 30 bucks on something that i couldn't get a lot of uses out of.

What did your finish look like before you put it on? Oxidation(at least in my experience) doesn't just "come off" with some nice and easy "wax on wax off", and then be good to go with a Mirror like finish.

Not trying to say that the product is junk, I'm just not sold that this product just wipes on nice and easy and comes off the same and "poof" the oxidation is gone. It very well may be a good product to use on an already good finish, as something to preserve it.

Yea I was thinking the same thing, any wax gives excellent results when your waxing a newer boat.

OK! it's pouring outside today it's been on since the beginning of August I'm looking outside and the water is beading, the side wall of the cabin was done with Zocor wax no beading what so ever. The oxidation I would say was medium this product did a number on my boat. As far as the amount used it was very little on the pad., I have a 2052 Trophy Pro and I have half a bottle left, it flowed on smoothly and consistently. I'm not saying this is the best product on the market next to peanut butter I'm saying I was pleased with the results. I'd suggest that if your interested buy the small bottle and see for yourself. I was just passing on some info I thought was use full to my boaters who as myself don't enjoy the waxing drill.

Rejex, made by the Corrosion X people will provide the same results. I have been using their wax for the past year and a half and find it really easy to use, economical ($12.50/12 oz.), and lasts about 6 months. It too is a pure wipe on, wipe off product. I usually pour it out into a pie pan and apply with a wide paint brush. It wipes right off, but I use an orbital to get a little more shine....

Thanks for your post, it's good to hear of some new stuff....

I think I might just try it based on your recommendation. I boats sells it for 16.00. I have wasted money before on things that I thought would work, and here it at least has some following to say it does a nice job. Thank you for the info.

Re: Boat Wax Surprise

Rejex is neither..it is a polymer coating, free of silicone. It is used primarily as a protectant and provides a surface easy to clean.
We do a lot of fishing off our rig, and by the end of the day, even with frequent washdowns, the blood, guts, bait, etc. can really be a pain to remove.
What i did first was use a Maguires carnuba based wax first. I then use the Rejex to provide a nice slick surface that cleans easily. Every six months I reup the Rejex.
Don't want to hijack wildemikes thread, but looks like we are using similar products....

Re: Boat Wax Surprise

This is a link to previous wax thread. This has photos of my experience the mentioned 3M products.

This message #3 in this link http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=296625 regarding restoring the gel on my restore.

These were 3M Compound, Polish, and wax that I used on my restore. A paint gloss meter was used. It started out as 35 and was able to achieve 92. It has held well even with gas being spilt around the gas cap.

These were 3M Compound, Polish, and wax that I used on my restore. A paint gloss meter was used. It started out as 33 and was able to achieve 92 (highly polished flat glass standard is 97). It has held well even with gas being spilt around the gas cap.

However, I don't think the Scotch Guard wax can remove oxidation. It took the compound and polish to get it slick and glossy.

However, the Scotch Guard is still beading after a year and is easy to clean.
