Does anyone have an idea of what this boat would weigh?<br /><br />1936 Chaparral 178XL<br />3.0 L 4cyl I/O, Alpha One Outdrive<br /><br />I'm buying a new winch for my trailer and need an estimate of the weight of the boat.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Brian

I'd pend a few extra bucks and get a size larger than you had. It is so much easier to use one that is overrated for the application and they aren't that expensive, you probably won't ever need to replace it again.<br />Also take you boat to a truck stop and get it weighed (full of gear and gas). Nice to know for sure.

The outboard version is 1400 lbs dry excl. motor.<br /><br />If you add gear and engine & drive, you should have an idea. The winch should be capable of the full weight - both for safety reasons and for a smooth and easy operation.

You might want to take a look at the 2 speed winches. 2 different gear ratios so you can choose if you want to crank hard and fast or slow and easy!
