Hello guys!

Just started this thread to post about one of the weirdest things I've ever seen a boat do on the weekend! So here it goes:

I am walking around the marina I dock my boat at just admiring some of the nice boats docked there, When I hear a v8 rumble so I though to myself "who's got the loud thru hull exhaust". I looked around the marina did not see any boats running so, I thought this was odd so I walked up the hill to where the boats were parked on the trailers and being serviced. I quickly realized it was the boat with the cover on ,drive fully up and no hose connect to it!! I looked over and seen a couple guys staring at it so I went over and asked what the heck is going on they said I just started by it's self LOL.

Well I figured these guys weren't to concerned so I ran over to the mechanic and told him it was running and he tore across the marina faster than I ever have seen him run! I walked back over to the boat and apparently while I was running to tell the mechanic and on the way back the boat turned off and started back up again by it's self (as said the two guys standing watching eating ice cream).

I tell you what a strange thing to see a boat start by it's self, I'm glad I told the mechanic because the other guys apparently weren't to concerned. Possibly saved the owner a new motor! But boy the impeller is probably toast, after running for a good minute!

From your description of the Mechanics mad dash to save it, he might have already known of the problem. There were a couple of years when Merc had a similar issue where the motor would first trim all the way up and then the start all on it's own. No key needed either! It wouldn't have been so bad if it wouldn't have trimmed all the way up first.

I'm not sure if the mechanic knew about a problem, I don't believe so as he seemed pretty surprised. Well it wasn't a merc it was a what i could tell a omc cobra with vp lower unit so it cant be the problem you say they had. The mechanic said the key was in the on position so the owner must of left it on as he pulled it out of the water the night before, So some how it got power to start when just in the ON position.
