Idk whats up with my boat it wont start... It went down to 27 degrees last night so heres what i did today. Drained everything, risers, block, and took off all other water hose and let the water out. Took out thermostat and filled the block to the top with quicksilver antifreeze. Then filled each hose coming off the thermostat housing with antifreeze.. pulled the hose off the raw water pump housing and made sure it was emptied and put antifree in it so it reached the impeller (cranked engine over). will this be ok? i left the antifreeze in the block but drained the risers again. should i keep the riser filled? thanks alot guys.

I can't think why anyone would need to start a boat to drain the block of water.
It gravity drains.

It should be fine. Would be better if you'd done it yesterday, though. Hopefully nothing cracked.

I wouldn't fill the block with antifreeze... that- 50 stuff turns slushy when it gets to 0 degrees. Which means there is some expansion starting from freezing. Just fyi. I would pour some in to mix with the remaining water but that's it. Maybe fog the cylinders thru the sparkplug holes for some cylinder wall protection.

i needed to start the boat to winterize it not to drain the block.. i was planning on having the raw water pump suck up the coolant like every one else. Should i let some coolant out so it has room to expand or drain it completely and leave the drain plug out? i plan on fogging the cylinders and taking off the carb to have it rebuilt over the winter. risers shouldnt be left with antifreeze in them right? i was just going to leave the drain plugs out of those as well.

?

the coolant a boat uses is water, and water freezes... you have to drain it out so it doesn't crack the block and manifolds.

That's how you winterize a boat in the north.

by coolant i ment antifreeze i bought the kit that connects to the ear muffs and it haa a valve that you switch between the garden hose water and the 5 gallon jug it came with for anitfreeze. ive returned it because the boat wouldnt start aka the raw water wouldnt have any power to suck in the antifreeze.

either way i should be fine now. water is all drained, block is filled with antifreeze and im going to let some drain out incase it turns to sludge and expands like the other guy commented on thanks guys.
